As a private, non-profit garden, volunteers are crucial to our mission of educating the community in tropical gardening, conservation, and to the historic West Martello Tower.
Each Monday between 9am – 12noon, volunteers descend upon the garden to work their magic. Some weed and plant, some prefer to work on fort maintenance and beautification, some greet guests, propagate plants, or do computer work. There is always a lot to do, and we need you!
There are many benefits to volunteering at the West Martello Gardens. Every Monday about half-way through our time, volunteers or special speakers come in for a quick educational lesson. It’s a great way to socialize, take a break, and learn something new! Some volunteers prefer to volunteer all over the gardens, some prefer to be specialists in their area (for example, orchids or succulents). In this way we have a well-trained crew of generous volunteers, and the Gardens benefit.
Volunteers also get to socialize at our annual potluck luncheon. Apparently, gardeners are also wonderfully skilled cooks! Come join us today. Gardening is healthy and fun, and you will make a difference!
