The 1980 Mariel Boat Lift had a huge impact on the United States in general and Key West in particular. Come hear historian Fred Borch talk about this important event in our history — why and how some 125,000 Cubans fled Castro for Florida and the boat lift’s lasting effects.

Fred Borch is a historian and lawyer. He recently retired as Professor of Legal History and Leadership at the Army’s law school in Charlottesville, Virginia.
